Coca-Cola India broadens its 100% recycled PET bottle range for Kinley water, marking a significant leap towards a sustainable packaging future.

Coca-Cola India has widened its horizon in sustainable packaging by extending its range of 100% recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles for its Kinley water brand. The newly launched bottles are available in 250-milliliter and 750-milliliter pack sizes, aligning with Coca-Cola's vision of a greener footprint.

According to Environment+Energy Leader, these recycled bottles, carved out by Coca-Cola's bottling allies Moon Beverages and SLMG Beverages, embrace 100% food-grade recycled PET, with the exception of caps and labels. This recycled plastic has earned the nod from the U.S. FDA and European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) for its food-grade quality, reiterating its safety for reuse.

Sanjeev Agarwal, Chairman of Moon Beverages, accentuated, "PET plastic bottles have value beyond their first life," emphasizing the recyclability of these bottles. He hailed this initiative as a substantial step towards fostering plastic circularity in India.

statement

Previously, Coca-Cola was the pioneer in unveiling a one-liter bottle made from 100% recycled PET. The initiative has now blossomed across more than 40 markets. Under its 'World Without Waste' banner, Coca-Cola aspires to achieve 50% recycled content by 2030, alongside its global goal of recycling a bottle or can for every one sold by the same year. Moreover, the firm is on track to render 100% of its packaging recyclable by 2025.

Paritosh Ladhani, Managing Director of SLMG Beverages, expressed pride in being among the trailblazers to produce the rPET variant in India, underscoring a robust commitment to sustainability.

Additionally, the Indian authorities have greenlighted the utilization of recycled PET in food packaging, propelling the nation closer to a sustainable packaging paradigm. This move shadows Coca-Cola Bangladesh's earlier stride of launching 100% rPET bottles in December 2022, a pioneering act in Southwest Asia.

In collaboration with Zepto, Coca-Cola has also unfurled a "Return and Recycle" initiative, collecting bottles directly from patrons.

Enrique Ackermann, VP of Technical and Innovation at Coca-Cola India, elucidated, "We seek to drive a circular economy for our packaging to curtail waste and carbon emissions," emphasizing the relentless quest for enhancing recycled content in packaging, amplifying the use of refillable bottles, and fostering recycling through their 'World Without Waste' initiative. This venture, steered by Moon Beverages and SLMG Beverages, accentuates Coca-Cola India's unwavering allegiance to sustainability, striving for a greener tomorrow.
